Second deadly quake strikes Italy

CAVEZZO, Italy (Reuters) - An earthquake killed at least 15 people in northern Italy on Tuesday, damaging buildings and spreading panic among thousands of residents still living in tents after a tremor in the same region destroyed their homes just over a week ago. Officials said several people were trapped under the rubble of houses and warehouses in the Emilia-Romagna region, where several building sites and workshops had just reopened after the previous quake on May 20. Civil protection officials said 15 people were confirmed dead.
Seven people were killed in the May 20 quake that, like Tuesday's, had its epicenter not far from the city of Modena. Italian television showed buildings shaking and collapsing, ambulances racing across towns and rescue workers battling to remove rubble.

Workshops and factories outside Cavezzo, a village about 30 km (20 miles) from Modena, suffered considerable damage, a Reuters reporter said. Sports car maker Ferrari and motorcycle firm Ducati closed their plants in the region for safety reasons. "The situation is one of great fear and uncertainty," said Salvatore Iannizzotto, provincial head for the Modena police. "The population was becoming more relaxed and slowly moving back into their homes. They have now left their homes again." The 5.8-magnitude quake was felt across northern and central Italy, including in the most populous northern city Milan. The area was hit by several large aftershocks, one of 5.6 magnitude. The quake was the most deadly to strike Italy since 2009 when a tremor partially destroyed the central city of L'Aquila, killing about 300 and leaving thousands homeless.

5 of the world’s wildest water slides

It's heating up out there, which means you and the fam will likely be searching out ways to cool down over the next couple months. That probably means at least one trip to the chlorine rivers of your local water park, where you will undoubtedly be tempted to risk life and limb simply to plummet down a giant wet slide. But all rides are not created equal, so if you really want to challenge your intestinal fortitude, search out the parks that hold these truly spectacular slides.
1.Insano Location: Beach Park, Fortaleza, Brazil

Standing a stomach-churning 41 meters (that's 14 stories) high, Brazil's Insano is officially the tallest water slide in the world. Unofficially, it's the one that gives us the most willies. After what looks more like stepping out of plane than scooching down a slide, riders plummet down the near-vertical ride for about four or five seconds, during which they'll reach the ungodly speed of about 65 mph. The ride then terminates with what the creators call a 'relaxing dive into the swimming pool.' Relaxing might not be the right word.

2.Scorpion's Tail

It might not be as tall as Insano, but the ten-story high Scorpion's Tail at the popular Noah's Ark Water park in Wisconsin is equally gut-wrenching. Why? Because it's essentially one giant, water-slick loop. It's not quite vertical, though considering you'll be hurtling through it at about 50 feet per second, that's probably a good thing. But Scorpion's Tail packs an even nastier surprise for those willing to brave its sting: a freefall drop to get you started. Rather than gently pushing themselves off, riders stand in a capsule for a few seconds until the ground abruptly gives way. Suddenly, that loop makes more sense, as it's the only thing slowing you down from the 2.5 gs of gravitational force driving you through the spray. Yikes.

3.Summit Plummet
Location: Disney's Blizzard Beach at Walt Disney World Resort, Orlando, Florida The family-friendly folks at Disney aren't necessarily known for pushing the envelope when it comes to thrill rides. The Summit Plummet at Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park, however, is as extreme as water slides come. It's 12 stories high -- good enough to be the tallest in the U.S. -- and features a 360-foot flume that carries riders to speeds between 50 and 60 mph. And did we mention much of that takes place in a darkened tunnel? Because what better to mix with your crippling fear of heights than your crippling fear of the dark? Is this really Mickey-approved?

4.Leap of Faith

Location: Atlantis Resort, Paradise Island, Bahamas It can't be easy coming up with new and interesting ways to freak out water slide victims riders, so we're doling out a few bonus points to the minds behind the Leap of Faith. Located at the massive Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, the slide starts at the top of a faux Mayan temple and sends riders down a steep, 60-foot drop. But forget about just coasting into a pool, because first you'll cruise through a lagoon aquarium brimming with a variety of large, toothy sharks. You'll get a good view, too, since the only thing separating you from the predators is a clear acrylic tube.

5.The Mammoth
Location: Holiday World, Santa Claus, IN You have to hand it to Indiana's Holiday World — when they go big, they go really, really big. For years, they've hosted The Wildebeest, the world's longest water coaster. While you can still ride that puppy, it's no longer the record holder. That honor now goes to the aptly-named Mammoth. Running a ridiculous length of 1,763 feet (that's about 1/3 mile), the sprawling ride features seven drops and starts at a height of nearly 70 feet. But the best part? It will take you a good three minutes to make it through the Mammoth's twists and turns; compared to the five-second madness of Insano, that's one heckuva deal. While it's not technically a slide — you're in a 6-passenger spinning raft — the sheer size makes it a can't-miss for extreme riders.

IPL 2012 Champions : KKR

The Kolkata Knight Riders recorded their first ever IPL win as they trounced defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, in a tightly contested match at Chepauk. Manvinder Sultansingh Bisla and Jacques Kallis were the architects of KKR’s historic victory; the pair helping their side to a five-wicket win, after CSK had posted a daunting score of 190. Earlier, KKR were forced to make a couple of changes to their side with Laxmipathy Balaji’s hamstring injury not having healed itself completely. Brett Lee came in to the playing XI replacing Balaji, while MS Bisla stepped into the wicketkeeper’s role, due to which Debabrata Das sat out. CSK, meanwhile, played an unchanged side. The defending champions put on a dominating batting performance for the third game in a row. After MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to bat first, Murali Vijay and Michael Hussey struck an 87-run stand to give the hosts a perfect foundation for a big score.

Vijay pulled the quicks and used his feet to loft the KKR spinners. Hussey, on the other hand, charged down the wicket to the pacers and brought out, both the sweep and the reverse sweep to unleash a flurry of fours and sixes. KKR eventually got their first breakthrough when Vijay (42), attempting to pull Rajat Bhatia over deep square-leg, was caught by a diving Shakib Al Hasan in the 11th over. Vijay’s wicket didn’t slow CSK down though. Suresh Raina played a blinder to ensure the defending champions stayed on course to post a big score. Raina heaved Kallis for six over midwicket in the 12th over and smote Yusuf Pathan for 14 runs in three balls in the 14th before smashing Brett Lee and Sunil Narine for a six each in the 16th and 17th overs respectively. The Kolkata franchise picked their second wicket when Hussey (54) was bowled by Kallis off the first ball of the 18th over. But with Raina hitting a feisty 73 off just 38 balls and MS Dhoni chipping in with a nine-ball 14*, CSK finished at a challenging 190 for three in 20 overs. Raina was out, caught brilliantly by Lee off the last ball of CSK’s innings.

Chasing 191 to win their maiden IPL title, KKR’s hopes were dealt a crushing below when in-form batsman Gautam Gambhir (2) was bowled by Ben Hilfenhaus off a slower ball in just the first over. Bisla, who opened with Gambhir, nonetheless set about reviving the KKR innings. The opening batsman bludgeoned Albie Morkel for four fours in the fourth over and then lofted R Ashwin over the boundary ropes for a couple of sixes in the sixth to bring up KKR’s 50 in just 5.4 overs. Bisla then targeted Dwayne Bravo, flicking and lofting the CSK pacer for a four and a six over in the ninth overs, after which he hit Shadab Jakati for two consecutive fours to take his team to 111 for one in 11 overs. With Bisla firing, Kallis was happy to play second fiddle, and he had scored only 28 when the 100-run partnership between the two was brought up in the 11th over. However, when Bisla (89 off 48 balls) was caught at point by Badrinath in the 15th over, the all-rounder switched gears to take control of the run-chase. With KKR needing 50 off the last five overs, Kallis went after Shadab Jakati and Bravo. He hit them for a total of 23 runs in the 16th and 17th overs respectively. CSK tried their best to stymie KKR’s chances with a couple of wickets, including Kallis’ scalp, at the end. However, with KKR needing 16 to win off the last seven deliveries, Shakib Al Hasan (11* off seven) punished Ben Hilfenhaus for bowling a full toss over waist height (no ball) by scooping the CSK pacer for four to fine leg.

Manoj Tiwary (nine not out off three balls) then heaved Dwayne Bravo for consecutive boundaries in the last over to bring up a famous win for the Knight Riders. Man-of-the-match: Manvinder Sultansingh Bisla for his match-winning 48-ball 89 (8x4, 5x6) that helped KKR win their first ever IPL title.

Fights in Ukraine Parliament

A violent scuffle erupted in Ukraine's Parliament on Thursday evening over a bill that would allow the use of the Russian language in courts, hospitals and other institutions in the Russian-speaking regions of the country. The fight broke out between members of the pro-Western opposition who want to take Ukraine out of Russia's shadow and lawmakers from President Viktor Yanukovych's party, which bases its support in Ukraine's Russian-speaking east. At least one legislator, opposition lawmaker Mykola Petruk, suffered an apparent blow to the head and was taken to the hospital with blood streaming down his face.

Lawmakers have frequently scuffled in the Ukrainian Parliament. A fierce fight in December 2010, which sent at least six lawmakers to the hospital, started when members of Yanukovych's party threw chairs and punched opposition lawmakers who had been blocking legislative work all day. During a fight in April 2010, the Parliament speaker hid behind an umbrella as opposition lawmakers threw eggs and smoke bombs to protest a naval pact with Russia. Ukraine is deeply divided into the Russian-speaking east and south, which favors close ties with Moscow, and the Ukrainian-speaking west, which wants Ukraine to join the Western club. The opposition demanded an investigation into Thursday's scuffle.

Petrol in India costlier than in US

Even after the November 16 reduction of Rs 2.22 per litre in rates, petrol at Rs 66.42 a litre in Delhi is costlier than Rs 48.64 a litre in Pakistan.
Whereas in Sri Lanka it is Rs 61.38 per litre, Rs 52.42 a litre in Bangladesh and Rs 65.26 per litre in landlocked Nepal. Incidentally, Nepal does not have a refinery and imports all its requirement from India. However, petrol in Europe is costlier than in India. In the UK, it is priced at Rs 104.60 per litre.
Singh said of the Rs 66.42 per litre price of petrol in Delhi includes Rs 26.59 a litre because of taxes (both central excise and local sales tax or VAT).
The US has only Rs 5.32 per litre tax on petrol while it is Rs 62.47 a litre in UK.
Petrol price in India has risen 39 per cent, or Rs 18.49 per litre, since April 2010. Petrol in Delhi cost Rs 47.63 per litre last year. The hike in rates in Pakistan is lower at 26 per cent, from Rs 38.74 per litre to Rs 48.64 a litre. Sri Lanka has seen a 36 per cent increase from Rs 45.23 per litre in April 2010 to Rs 61.38 a litre at present.
In Nepal, petrol price went up from Rs 49.98 per litre to Rs 65.26 a litre currently, an increase of 31 per cent. Nearly 45 per cent of the current retail price of petrol in Delhi is made up of taxes.

The refinery price of petrol is just Rs 36.82 per litre, on top of which Rs 2.25 in inland freight and marketing cost and margin is added. Besides, Rs 14.78 per litre is the excise duty component and Rs 11.07 a litre is the sales tax that Delhi government charges. Another Rs 1.50 is the commission that petrol pump dealers earn.
Petrol in India is costlier than in US because of high taxes, said R P N Singh, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas in a reply to a question to Rajya Sabha. Petrol in Delhi costs Rs 66.42 per litres as compared to US, where it costs Rs 44.88 per litre. Despite a Rs 2.22 per litre reduction in the rates, petrol cost Rs 66.42 per litre in Delhi and is costlier than Rs 48.64 a litre in Pakistan. In neighbouring Sri Lanka, the price is Rs 61.38 per litre, Rs 65.26 per litre in Nepal and Rs 52.42 a litre in Bangladesh. However, petrol is costlier in Europe when compared to India and priced t Rs 104.60 per litre in the UK. Singh said that the petrol prices in Delhi includes both central excise and local sales tax. Meanwhile, the petrol prices may come down by Rs 1.02 per litre this week owing to fallen global oil rates.

Betting Tips

A betting strategy or betting system is a structured approach to gambling intended to counter the inherent bias held by the house in casino and card games, by bookmakers in horseracing and sports betting, and other gambling situations. A successful strategy should increase the odds of winning in order to produce long term profits from a pursuit which under normal circumstances will only ever result in a long term loss. All successful betting systems are predicated on statistical analysis, seeking to exploit the rare circumstances when the odds are in the favour of the player. Though the basis of all risk is fundamentally the same, betting systems vary in relation to the rules and circumstances of each particular game

Audi e-bike: A bicycle that runs at top speed of 80 kmph

Audi unveiled an extremely emotion-inspiring sports machine, the Audi e-bike Wörthersee at Wörthersee in Carinthia, Austria. The prototype cycle combines an electric drive and muscle power. Head of Design Wolfgang Egger comments: “As a high-performance e-bike for sports and trick cycling, it features the Audi core competences of design, ultra, e-tron and connect.” The Audi e-bike Wörthersee puts in its first major appearance at this year’s ... more

The uncompromising dynamism of the bike prototype is fully visible at first sight. “When developing the Audi e-bike Wörthersee we drew on motor racing design principles for inspiration,” explains Hendrik Schaefers, one of the designers at Concept Design Studio Munich. “The e-bike appears incredibly precise, highly emotional and strictly functional. Indeed, the design effort focused on its function as a sports machine. All design elements are thus firmly aligned to the technical features.”

The airy frame boasts a low center of gravity and a compact overall volume. In this way, the e- bike is superbly agile at the sporty handling limits. The lithium-ion battery is incorporated into the frame and needs 2.5 hours to freuteully charge. On long trial tours, only a few simple steps are required to remove the battery and replace it with a charged one.

Ukrainian Protestor have been jailed...

Topless FEMEN activists have been media darlings due to their methods of protest. According to FEMEN, topless protests are probably the strongest and most effective form of peaceful and nonviolent protests to attract attention.

A group of Ukrainian topless protesters are now facing jail term up to four years for climbing onto the balcony of the Indian embassy in Kiev and tearing down India's national flag. The activists staged a second attack on the Euro 2012 soccer trophy on Monday, grabbing it while it was on public display in the southeast of Ukraine before being seized themselves by police.

The protest was provoked by the Indian Foreign Ministry’s orders to make visa verifications stricter for Ukrainian, Russian, Kazakh and Kyrgyzstani women aged between 18 and 40 years. More than a lakh tourists from the Soviet region are estimated to visit India every year, and many of them are alleged to perpetrate sex tourism and prostitution.

Topless Ukrainian activists....

How does one imagine a feminist movement? Traditionally feminist movements have been about campaigning for reproductive rights, equal pay, women’s suffrage, protesting to increase awareness of sexual harassment, domestic violence and many other issues affecting women’s lives. Yet, in Ukraine this has taken on a new form – topless protest.

The Femen movement came into existence in 2008 in the capital of Ukraine, Kiev. It united a small number of young female students from nearby universities who were disappointed with the social, political and economic situation of women in Ukraine. Their main goals are: to raise awareness of the issues affecting women’s lives in Ukraine and to demand immediate improvement of women’s conditions by the government; to promote and defend democracy and freedom of speech as the only system in which women can flourish and be equal. Their motto: ‘come, get topless and win’. Femen activists can not only be recognized by the topless protests and the clear message written on their bodies or being held above their heads. Paradoxically the old Ukrainian symbol of feminine purity and virginity, the wreath, has also become an integral part of Femen’s image.
COME GET TOPLESS AND WIN.-- It is their main Motto..

Femen campaigns have increased awareness of many different issues. One of the first and the most controversial has been ‘Ukraine is not a Brothel’. The series of protests under this title has criticized and opposed the international reputation of Ukraine as a country of “easy” women and “internet brides”. On the February 28, 2011, a New Zealander named Greg won a radio competition titled ‘Win a Ukrainian Wife’. “The Rock FM” radio promised to cover the cost of Greg’s travel and living expenses including 1080 Euro’s spending money. This would give him an opportunity to search for a Ukrainian wife. Dressed as brides, Femen activists were among the first to speak out against the arrival of the New Zealander. During their protest Femen activists chanted “Ukraine is not a brothel”, “Welcome to hell”, “Bride for Wildman”. The later refusal of Greg to travel to Ukraine can be partly attributed to the Femen’s actions but more importantly to the international media criticism. Even stronger and more frequent Femen protests under the title ‘Ukraine is not a Brothel’ have followed the preparations to the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, a perfect environment for the growth of the sex tourism which Femen opposes.

Their demands are twofold: the Ukrainian Parliament must introduce a law which would criminalize the actions of the buyer of sex services as well as demanding of UEFA that they fund a global anti-prostitution campaign.

Now an Apple iCar ???

An Apple board member has revealed that Steve Jobs had dreamed of creating an iCar before his sad demise in October last year after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer.Speaking at a Fast Company conference, Mickey Drexler stated that the car industry is a tragedy in America and Steve's dream was to design an iCar which would give the automotive industry the shake-up it required. Steve's iCar would be loaded with features like uni-body aluminum presumably, with a touchscreen panel instead of a steering wheel. As long as sat-nav didn’t control it he added a bit cheekily.

Meanwhile, Italy based auto designer Liviu Tudoran has taken cues from the Apple products and designed a concept car called iMove for the year 2020.
iMove will be electric and will feature the same design lines like all the latest Apple products. Most of the car body is covered with transparent materials, so that even under the roof the driver get a cabriolet feeling.
iMove will be able to acommodate three passengers and will have a ground-breaking luggage space. The concept offers various possibilities for customization, thus enabling the owners to change the car’s appliance according to its own preferences.

Chelsea makes good on Abramovich's $2.8 billion investment by winning Champions League

Chelsea's nail-biting victory in Saturday's Champions League final was the culmination of a dream that cost its owner Roman Abramovich an incredible $2.8 billion.
Abramovich, a secretive Russian oil tycoon, has coveted this title more than any other since taking over Chelsea in 2003, and he finally got his wish when the London club squeezed past Bayern Munich in an extraordinary penalty shootout at the Allianz Arena.

But success did not come cheap. The 45-year-old had to spend astonishing sums on player transfers, wages and improvements to the club infrastructure in the pursuit of European glory. Abramovich took over a club that was struggling financially and immediately turned it into a European power. Under his watch, the club has bought 66 world-class players at a staggering cost. The transfer fees for those players, according to sports finance expert Daniel King of the Sun newspaper, tallies up at $1.02 billion, more than any other club in the world during that same eight-season stretch. Player salaries have been even more expensive, according to King, with the overall wage bill totaling $1.8 billion – another record-setting figure that helped spiral soccer into a new era of hyper-spending. Eight managers also came and went in the space of eight years, most of them fired precisely for failing to win the Champions League. English Premier League titles and FA Cup wins were nice, but what really mattered to Abramovich was flexing his muscles in European competition. Ironically, it was the least heralded of those men, Roberto Di Matteo, who finally got the job done. Di Matteo, who was brought in as interim manager following the axing of Andre Villas-Boas, earns only a fraction of his predecessor's salary and, even after this triumph, is not guaranteed to get the job on a full-time basis. "There are so many people who will celebrate this and so many people who deserve credit for it," Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard said. "But you have to talk about Roman, what he has put in. "None of this would have been possible without him and it is a dream come true for him just like it is for the rest of us." On this night, when Didier Drogba rolled in the winning penalty to seal a memorable triumph, it was all finally worth it.

India among top 10 countries likely to be worst hit by asteroid

In a new study, scientists have identified the countries that are most likely to be worst hit by the catastrophic damage caused by asteroids.Research from the University of Southhampton have identified for the first time those which will suffer catastrophic loss of life or be so crippled it will be almost impossible for them to recover.

The top ten countries most at risk are:
China, Indonesia, India, Japan, the U.S, the Philippines, Italy, the U.K, Brazil and Nigeria.

NASA's Wide Field Infrared Survey Explorer has sampled 107 "potentially hazardous" asteroids near Earth - 330ft wide or larger - to make estimates about how many are out there - and the figure is a terrifying 47,000.The WISE survey now estimates there are 47,000 "potentially hazardous" asteroids. The PHAs (potentially hazardous asteroids) have the closest orbits to Earth's, coming within five million miles and they are big enough to survive passing through Earth's atmosphere and cause damage on a regional, or greater, scale.

Shah Rukh Khan’s fight at the Wankhede

Shah Rukh Khan has come out and defended his behaviour at the Wankhede last night. Here are excerpts from his interaction with the media - "I wasn’t drunk. Wrong to say I was under the influence of alcohol. I was being bullied. Banning my entry to the Wankhede will not make a difference to my life."
"My only clarification is they should look into their association and learn how to behave. Under the garb of security rules they cannot behave highhandedly with people and especially with children. You can’t physically manhandle children. They manhandled little girls."

"I think my behaviour was completely right. We would never, ever be abusive and disrepect the audience. It started when a gentlemen came from behind and started abusing me in Marathi."
"The way the security came and pushed the little girls was completely wrong. They were aggressive so I became aggressive back. I think they behaved extremely irresponsibly. I stand by what I did. My behaviour was completely correct." "They MCA officials need to behave better – not only with celebrities but with normal people also. " "It is very easy to take on a celebrity and say what you want to. "

SRK misbehaves after KKR win, officials want him banned from Wankhede

Bollywood superstar and co-owner of Kolkata Knight Riders, a franchise of Indian Premier League, Shah Rukh Khan could be banned by Mumbai Cricket Association from entering the Wankhede Stadium for life after he got into an ugly spat with the officials at the end of the IPL match between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Sources said that the Bollywood star had an altercation with security men and MCA officials and threatened them as well. Khan allegedly abused the MCA security personnel and MCA officials after the IPL match. The actor arrived with a group of about 20-25 people at the stadium after the match between KKR and Mumbai Indians had ended and tried to get into the field of play. Suneet Singh Tuli and his London-based company DataWind officially launched what was initially billed as the world's cheapest tablet computer on Thursday, April 26, in Delhi. Almost as a throwback to the interest Tata's small car Nano had created among the consumers, Tuli's company has received pre-booking orders for three million units of Ubislate 7+, the tablet's commercial name.
Out of these three million, around 2 per cent has paid full value for priority delivery, Tuli told Business Today. At Rs.3,000 per tablet, a little back-of-the-envelope calculation will tell us that Tuli already has around Rs.18 crore-Rs.20 crore in his pocket. Many of the smaller Indian domestic mobile phone makers catering to regional markets are yet to cross this mark.

Tuli claims he is getting daily fresh orders of 8,000 to 10,000 pieces. While there is plenty of demand, delivery may not be able to meet the schedules. Tuli said he's even considering alternative manufacturing avenues, but DataWind may have trouble meeting demand. "We expect to get 3 lakh to 4 lakh tablets a month and still a lot of people will be unhappy that devices are not coming," says Tuli.

DataWind's partnership with Quad, the manufacturing company, ran into trouble as some contract terms were allegedly not honoured. Even after tying up with new manufacturers, Tuli says he might have to look afresh to China for more manufacturers.

DataWind made headlines when it bagged the Ministry of Human Resource and Development's Aakash tablet orders in 2011. Since then, the company has continued to make news, although the headlines haven't always been favourable. Critics also found fault with the tablet's design, which they said was low quality and difficult to use. DataWind is also facing competitive pressure as other companies in India and abroad get into the low-cost tablet game.

Neither the controversy nor the competition discouraged Tuli, nor did they stop India's aspiring tablet owners. Tuli compares the idea of a low-cost tablet to a slim wad of soap paper that he takes out of his travel kit. He says: "You find a sachet only in India, nowhere else in the world." India is driven by affordability. If all goes well, Tuli says he will be participating in the Aakash 2 tendering process as well, but with a new set of partners.

PIL filed against Sachin Tendulkar

A public interest litigation has been filed against cricketer Sachin Tendulkar contesting that his nomination to the Rajya Sabha is unconstitutional.

The plea questioned the validity of Sachin's nomination on the ground that he failed to meet the conditions laid down in the Constitution required for a person to be nominated as an MP.

However, the Delhi High Court has refused to restrain cricketer Sachin Tendulkar from taking oath as Rajya Sabha member.

On Tuesday, a Supreme Court bench too had refused to entertain a petition challenging cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's nomination to the Rajya Sabha.

The SC bench felt that a remedy could lie in the high court and allowed the petitioner to withdraw the case and approach the Delhi High Court.

However, the Delhi High Court has sought the central government's response on the PIL against Sachin

Chandila claims hat-trick Rajasthan Royals vs Pune Warriors

This is precisely what happened at Jaipur on Sunday evening. An out-of-IPL-V contention Pune Warriors were comprehensively thrashed by a team that still have an outside chance of making the play-offs. A motivated Rajasthan Royals batted first at their home ground, posted a commendable 170, thanks to half-centuries by Ajinkya Rahane and Shane Watson, and then destroyed Warriors as the unheralded Haryana off-spinner Ajit Chandila took a hat-trick on his way to a match-winning four for 13. Not for a minute were Pune in the chase. Chandila opened the bowling and spurred into activity, claiming Jesse Ryder on the fifth ball. On the next delivery, the last of the first over, Sourav Ganguly (returning after sitting out of the previous match) extended his woeful season by being stumped down the legside. Chandila was on a hat-trick, but he had to wait just a bit more to realize the landmark. The 28-year-old bowler returned to bowl the third over of the innings and registered the first hat-trick of IPL-V when he foxed Robin Uthappa outside the off-stump, Shreevats Goswami making no mistake with his second stumping of the match.
Chandila picked up another one when Anustup Majumdar provided him with a dolly of a return catch, and Pune - 26-4 in the fifth over - went rapidly downhill from there. With the asking rate escalating to unapproachable levels, Steven Smith and Angelo Mathews – Pune’s last hopes in what has been a hopeless year for them -wilted under pressure, and the Ganguly’s team fell short by 45 runs in the end. This was Pune's eighth consecutive defeat in IPL-V. Another highlight of the chase was the stunning relay-catch pulled off by Johan Botha-Rahane. Botha at long-off overran the field getting to a skier by Rahul Sharma, tossed the ball at the last moment to long-on, where Rahane captured the ball safely in his grasp. The win kept Rajasthan alive and Rahul Dravid’s team now needs to nail their two remaining matches to have a chance of making the play-offs. But as much as Chandila’s hat-trick was responsible for keeping Royals in the hunt, Rahane and Watson played an equally important part when they added 94 in just 10 overs in the first innings. Rahane opened with Dravid and took the score to 29, before the skipper made way for Watson in the middle. Rahane kept the board ticking, showing an impressive urgency in converting ones into twos, while Watson was content in forcing the ball through the leg side region.

Ricky Ponting, Officer of the Order of Australia

Former Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting displays his Order of Australia medal at Government House in Sydney on May 10, 2012. Ponting was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for his services to Australian cricket.

Royal Challengers complete the double over Warriors

Things just aren't going right for Pune Warriors in the fifth season of the Indian Premier League, as despite a new captain in Steven Smith and wholesale changes to the playing eleven, they slumped to yet another loss - this time to Royal Challengers Bangalore by 35 runs on Friday night. This was RCB's third consecutive win and they are now behind only Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders in the points table .

As was widely speculated, Sourav Ganguly was 'rested' for this match with Smith, who had led the Sydney Sixers to a tournament win in the inaugural edition of the Big Bash League, taking over the captaincy of the Warriors. Apart from Ganguly, Pune Warriors also left out Mithun Manhas, Ashish Nehra, Murali Kartik and Wayne Parnell; with Mohnish Mishra, Manish Pandey, Rahul Sharma, Krishnakant Upadhyay and Alfonso Thomas replacing them.

The start of the match was delayed for an hour after the toss because of rain; but once play got underway Chris Gayle continued his marauding form in IPL-5 as his attacking burst at the top of the order laid the foundation for RCB's total of 173 for 3, which was always going to be a daunting score to chase on the slowish pitch at Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium. Gayle took his time in the first couple of overs of the match to play himself in, but went into overdrive in the third over when he hit Upadhyay for two massive sixes.

The best was yet to come though from Gayle's bat and the hapless bowler to suffer at the hands of the attacking southpaw was Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who was hit for four sixes in the sixth over. The last of those maximums brought up Gayle's half-century from only 24 balls - the fastest of IPL-5; and his blitzkerig helped RCB score 66 runs in the Powerplay overs to leave Warriors' captain Steven Smith clueless and worried. Gayle's brutal hitting in that Kumar over brought back memories of April 17 when he had hit five consecutive sixes off Rohit Sharma in RCB's thrilling last-ball win against Warriors at Bangalore.

Man-of-the-Match Gayle scored 57 from 31 balls (3x4, 6x6) before Angelo Mathews had him well caught by Manish Pandey at the long-on boundary to give the Warriors a much needed breakthrough. RCB captain Virat Kohli (9) had yet another failure in IPL-5 when his leading edge flew straight to Smith at short cover with Rahul Sharma being the successful bowler.

At this stage, RCB was 97 for 2 after 12 overs and the Warriors had done well to pull back the scoring rate; but 30 runs came across the 14th and 15th overs as Tillakaratne Dilshan and Saurabh Tiwary took the attack to the Warriors' bowlers. Dilshan, who made a 44-ball 53, was content rotating the strike when Gayle was on the rampage, but gradually started playing his shots as well before he was run out by Alfonso Thomas on his follow through in the 18th over. Tiwary (36* from 30 balls) was surprisingly promoted ahead of AB de Villiers, and he struggled to time the ball for most of his innings. De Villiers finished RCB's innings in style with a six over long-on off Alfonso Thomas. Mathews (3-0-14-1) was the most economical of the Warriors' bowlers; but Kumar and Thomas conceded 86 runs in the eight overs they bowled between themselves.

The Warriors needed a good start in their chase of 174, but that wasn't to be as Zaheer Khan dismissed Mishra and Pandey in the first over to peg the hosts on the back foot.

And, when Michael Clarke (13 from 10 balls) continued to struggle in IPL-5, became Vinay Kumar's first victim of the match, the Warriors were struggling at 22 for 3 inside four overs; and the chase was all but over at this stage.

Robin Uthappa and Anustup Majumdar gave the Warriors a glimmer of hope with their well-paced partnership of 50 runs in 4.4 overs for the fourth wicket, with the former looking set to play his first big knock of the tournament. But, that wily old Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan had Uthappa (38 from 23 balls) stumped by de Villiers in the first over after the strategic time out, and this was the start of the end for the Warriors. Mathews was expected to play an important hand, but his stay in the middle was short-lived before he was stumped off KP Appanna's bowling.

Smith (24* from 25 balls) failed to accelerate the scoring, and with wickets continuing to fall at the other end, it was a 'mini-victory' of sorts for the Warriors that they weren't bowled out inside 20 overs. Muralitharan with figures of 4-0-16-2 showed yet again the reason batsmen the world over are mighty relieved that he has retired from international cricket. Zaheer (2-21) and Vinay Kumar (3-32) were also impressive as RCB continued their winning ways.

How to perfectly conduct an interview

When an organization grows, the recruitment of New Employeesbecomes necessary.
This leads to the hassle of conducting interviews and giving appointments to candidates who have been filtered for the job. However, preparation for an interview before hand is equally important for the interviewer as it is for the person who is going to be interviewed. Let us see how and why.

1. Be thorough
Make sure you have a thorough understanding of the position for which you are going to interview the candidate. This will help you decide whether the candidate has a profile matching the job description or not. Also go through the Candidate's resume and highlight points on which you may want toquestion the applicant.

2. Well begun is half done
Start off on a positive note. There is no harm in making the interviewee feel welcome. It is not an interviewer’s prerogative to scare the life out of a candidate and make him as uneasy as you can. Do remember though, never form an opinion based on whether the person seems affable or not. Your job is to test his knowledge specific to the position he has applied for.

3. Action
Now that you have the candidate’s full attention, get into the thick of things. You must have a basic list of questions prepared beforehand which can be applicable to all candidates. These questions should be aimed at the candidate’s skill sets and abilities. You can also ask questions pertaining to previous work experiences or projects, based on the kind of candidate you have. Their response and body language will help you make a basic assessment of their nature.

4. The art of 20 Questions
There are different approaches you can take to judge a candidate’s potential. Factual questions will give you an insight to a person’s subject knowledge related to the position. You can also give the candidate a situation to analyze and ask them how they dealt with similar problems at their previous workplace. Ask them about significant tasks or projects they had accomplished earlier. Make sure your questions are more open-ended than of the closed nature. Also avoid asking yes/no questions. Reframe them in a manner which prompts the candidate to elaborate on his answer.

5. Ask & Listen
Clarify the available time at the beginning of the interview. This will allow the interviewee to pace his answers accordingly. Never rush a candidate into giving out his answers in a hurry. Maintain eye contact and keep a note of how the candidate reacts and responds to your questions. Allow them to ask questions too. Listen attentively and answer to the best of your abilities.

6. Behave professionally
As discussed earlier, make the candidate feel at ease, but at the same time maintain a professional demeanor. The candidate should be able to understand the importance of the situation. Also keep in mind, that the candidate will definitely be sharing his experience and giving feedback to other people. Your manner and approach will directly represent that of your company, so look before you leap.

7. Over and out
Once you’re finished, the questioning and answering, thank the interviewee for his time. Let him know when he can expect to hear back from the company about the final employment decision. Do not make false promises and be clear on the company’s policy in this regard. Once the candidate leaves, take your time and give a fair evaluation of the interview process. Do not let your personal view of the candidate as affect your assessment. Rather, list out the candidate’s strengths and weaknesses relative to the position he is being considered for.
Remember, a well-conducted interview saves the company a lot of time, money and other future hassles. You do not want to hire the wrong employee and then have to lay him off later on. Taking the final call is in your hands, so play your cards perfectly.
